When I moved this blog over to WordPress in August of this year, Jetpack was one of the first plugins I installed. It is constantly improving and bringing some of the best features from WordPress.com 1 over to self-hosted blogs. In my opinion it is positively blurring the line between my own hosted version of WP and the one on WP.com. One is having the best of both worlds, so to speak.
Just this morning I noticed that the plugin now got updated to version 2.0 and from what I can see right now, it looks very nice. The most exciting new features (for me of course that is) are that photos can now be hosted via the WP.com CDN network (called Photon) and the introduction of the same publicize feature as on WP.com 2 to post articles to Twitter and/or Facebook.
In any way, you can consider me a happy camper and I’m looking forward to see what they come up with in the future.
I have been using WP.com for many years already and during that time I have grown accustomed to quiet a few features that I have been missing on a self-hosted and needed to re-create. ↩
Currently I use IFTTT.com for these purposes but it’s great to have this feature natively (well almost). And yes, I do see the irony in not actively using neither FB and (at least to some extent) Twitter anymore but still posting to these services. ↩
