Tie Ins

Social media references aren’t rare at all in today’s TV-shows or movies, more often that not though I felt that they are missing out simply because a referenced YouTube video, blog or even simply a Twitter account is not even existing. In my opinion here would be a great potentional to have the audience engage much more in a show.

I recently got into New Sherlock and was more than positively surprised to see the amount of successful tie-ins (I believe this to be the correct term) the makers of the series have made. Not only do we find Sherlock’s website The Science of Deduction but also the ever so often referenced blog from John Watson.

They even go so far as to reference to the series and back in the actual blog entries.

When I first met Sherlock, he told me my life story. He could tell so much about me from my limp, my tan and my mobile phone. And that’s the thing with him. It’s no use trying to hide what you are because Sherlock sees right through everyone and everything in seconds.

I enjoy little things like this and I think it would be neat if other series would actually do similar. Wouldn’t it be fun if all the referenced You Tube videos in Big Bang Theory actually would be available?

Another tie-in that I found is of course the blog of Barney Stinson from How I met your mother.
